There are a few too many things in this one that I *have to see* (or hear)! I’ve never heard of the Judy Garland film though I do love The Shop Around the Corner! And this recommendation is surely the one that tips me over the edge to Somebody Somewhere. Not sure why I was resistant in the first place other than that there’s too much out there to see. Let’s not even start with the Leonard Cohen stuff, that’s all mandatory, and even seasonal for me, because we always listened to his records at home at Christmas time.

p.s. curious to hear your thoughts on Hard Truths when you do see it.

Thanks, and I love your Christmas Cohen half-anecdote here - what albums/songs in particular have seasonal associations for you? I've been talking with some friends about holiday songs that aren't actually holiday songs (not even in the Die Hard sense), but just feel like it to particular people because of these personal associations.

I think Songs of Leonard Cohen and New Skin for the Old Ceremony were the two albums my mom loved most in her youth. But she also had a real soft spot for I'm Your Man, which came out the year we moved to Canada, and was sort of my first intro to his music? So, all three of those albums remind me of my mom and of the holidays, since that's the time of year we'd be most likely to be sitting around just listening to records.
